Tri-State Tornado of 1925: The most devastating tornado in United States History
The Tri- State Tornado is a turning point because when the government didn't allow Meteorologists to forecast tornadoes in 1925, the citizens of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana went on through the day like a normal day.
On March 18,1925 an F5 tornado called the Tri-State Tornado 10 million dollars worth of damage. This tornado was a turning point because in 1925, people weren’t allowed to speak of the word tornado because it was banned since 1886. Scientists couldn’t study tornadoes, sirens were invented back then, but the Government wouldn't allow Meteorologists to use them. After the horrible destruction of the Tri-State Tornado, scientists were allowed to further study tornadoes. This tragedy gave people access to information to protect themselves from tornadoes. Other communities never recovered. The small settlements of Parrish, Ill., and Griffin, Ind., were destroyed, said Peter Felknor.
